Efficient.
Sustainable.
Cost-Effective.

Our retrofit solutions can help you meet energy targets and extend the life of your lighting systems – without the cost of a full refit.

With a clear shift occurring in the lighting market towards a circular economy with the emphasis on reuse, upgrade and repair, Dextra Group have a long history in this field which we can bring to bear on your projects to allow you to upgrade and extend the lifetime of your lighting installation without the cost and waste associated with a complete new lighting installation.

Whilst we have always offered customised solutions for our customers, over the last decade we have engaged with some of the UKs largest retailers producing retrofit trays to suit existing luminaires across their estates in hundreds of thousands of units encompassing hundreds of product variants. Alongside this we have undertaken countless smaller projects with a wide and varied client base including hospitals, schools and offices producing retrofit luminaires to suit existing luminaires.

Our extensive product catalogue in the retrofit market encompasses a vast range of luminaire variants, ceiling types and chill beam systems and our experience in this sector makes the development of a customised retrofit solution for your project a simple and rapid process.

Why partner with Dextra on your retrofit lighting project?

Over the last decade we have engaged with some of the UK's largest retailers producing retrofit trays to suit existing luminaires across their estates.

The Benefits

  • Minimise waste and contribute to carbon reduction commitments. Retrofit gear trays go hand in hand with a TM66 circular economy approach to lighting, reusing components where possible, preventing serviceable parts entering the recycling chain and therefore reducing environmental impact and Co2 generation. We can provide calculations for Co2 savings through installation of a retrofit solution where needed.
  • Upgrade the energy efficiency of your installation with the latest generation of LED lighting without the disruption and cost of a complete new luminaire.
  • LED Retrofit solutions can typically be installed in the majority of luminaire types including fluorescent. With fluorescent lamps being phased out our retrofit solutions offer a quick and simple method to extend the lifetime of your lighting installation without the disruption and waste of complete luminaire replacement.
  • Retrofit solutions allow you to upgrade your lighting installation with features such as integral presence detection, daylight regulation, emergency control gear and wireless systems for grouped operation or central reporting of emergency testing without the need to rewire your installation. Such systems can substantially reduce energy consumption and ongoing maintenance costs maximising the benefit of your lighting upgrade.
  • Where existing luminaire housings are particularly expensive and complex, where unusual ceiling systems require costly bespoke luminaires or where factors such as asbestos prohibit luminaire removal a retrofit solution can provide a simple solution to upgrade your lighting with substantial savings compared to complete new luminaires.
  • Retrofit solutions ensure that luminaire positions do not need to be changed and existing cabling systems can be reused further reducing the cost and disruption compared to a new luminaire installation.
  • We will test the fully assembled product for CE / UKCA mark compliance and undertake photometric testing to ensure peace of mind that the retrofit luminaire will provide the same quality and lifetime as a new luminaire and also that the lux level and uniformity of your installation will not be compromised. All Dextra retrofit solutions are supplied with our 5 year warranty to the same level as a complete new product underlining our confidence in these systems.

The Process

  • Simply contact us for an initial discussion regarding the project where we will establish the basic information required, this may vary project to project but will typically involve an understanding of the existing luminaires, the scope of the project and requirements for dimming, emergency and controls systems.
  • With this information in hand we can often provide an estimated cost and energy saving to ensure that the project is viable to proceed.
  • Typically a sales representative will then visit site to undertake a survey to ensure that we have understood the full scope of the project and any challenges with existing infrastructure that need to be considered in our proposal.
  • Ideally a sample of the existing luminaire will be taken from site for our design team to assess, undertake detailed design work and produce a first off sample for testing, site installation and approval. This process is usually completed within two weeks.
  • On acceptance of the trial installation the project can proceed to order placement, delivery and installation.
