R D Johns Ltd
Like many successful businesses, R D Johns Ltd started from humble beginnings. It started in 1970 when Roy Johns opened a butchers shop in the village of Bishopsteignton in South Devon.
Since then, organic growth through new business, expansion of range and diversification, has seen the company reach a £43 million turnover, and increase of 66% in 12 months.
This year has seen further investment into the business achieving sustained growth across the Food Service range of products. The company has listed many more products and achieved exciting trading relationships with new suppliers. It now stocks over 5000 lines, offering its customers the ‘one stop shop’ experience with a simple ordering procedure.
But additional lines also meant more space and more efficiency had to be found, so the company had a new bespoke warehouse built in Kingsteignton, to help with the increased stock as well as the opportunity to reduce running costs and carbon footprint where possible.
Working with contractor HEI Group (SW) Ltd, Dextra was tasked with providing a solution which would look aesthetically pleasing and suit the extreme cold operating environments.
Large energy savings were also achieved despite the new distribution centre being much bigger than the old one – this was achieved due to efficiency levels and payback time of the new luminaires provided along with wireless sensors used in the Coldbays of the warehouse.
