Iceland Foods is a major British supermarket chain specialising in frozen foods with a firm focus on innovation, convenience and value. The company operates its long-standing high street stores alongside its newer and larger Food Warehouse formats, offering an extensive range of groceries to its customers. Founded in 1970 by Sir Malcolm Walker they are one of Britain’s fastest growing retailers with over 900 stores across the UK.
To support growth and help futureproof their supply chain they decided to build a new state of the art distribution centre to service stores across the north west of England, the Scottish borders and Wales. As a long-standing supplier of LED lighting to Iceland we were invited to participate in the tender. Working in conjunction with the appointed consultants we developed a solution using the latest LED technology to deliver an energy efficient lighting system that was quick to install and simple to maintain. This included a range of controls to help minimise energy consumption across the site.
Working directly with the team at Toolstation and their appointed electrical contractors we trialled a number of different solutions before settling on 3-circuit track with linear mounted EPK battens and our on-board R44 sensors. The track itself was supplied in 3m lengths making it quick to retro-fit into existing stores and the 180˚ opal optic of the batten provided a broad polar distribution, helping to evenly illuminate the racks. To compliment this we installed our Coulis 70 track spots to provide accent lighting to the end displays along with our MOD Edge panels to the trade counter areas. Toolstation were happy with the finished result and we have since supplied lighting to stores across their UK estate.
