Introduction

The combination of stringent hygiene requirements, high ambient temperatures and the substantial costs associated with production stoppages in food processing applications requires a unique approach to luminaire design. The Torrent 2 has been designed to address these issues to ensure that food production applications can be effectively lit with the minimum of energy whilst also being able to withstand rigorous cleaning, provide excellent thermal management and offer state of the art life expectancy to minimise maintenance.

 The Torrent 2 incorporates a tear drop profile extruded aluminium housing with anodised finish to eliminate any potential dirt or dust traps whilst also ensuring that the coating can not flake or peel risking food contamination. With an IP66 rating the Torrent 2 is designed to withstand high pressure cleaning whilst the aluminium profile provides thermal management allowing specific variants to be used in areas with an ambient temperature of up to 50°C. The Torrent 2 uses only our latest mid power LEDs offering in excess of 206llm/W with lumen depreciation of just 20% after 100,000 operating hours, the driver is rated to 100,000 hour lifetime and integral emergency variants use Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries with a five year warranty and greatly extended battery lifetime compared to chemistries such as nickel metal hydride. This combination of premium components ensures that costly shut downs for essential maintenance and repairs are minimised further improving return on investment far beyond energy saving alone.

 With two housing sizes, a wide range of lumen outputs and four lens variants the Torrent 2 can be easily tailored to suit a range of mounting heights and spacings allowing for simple retrofit of existing applications whilst a range of wireless options and integral daylight regulation and presence detection in IP65 variants offer automated emergency testing and reporting and further enhance energy savings.
